Hello all,
First let me say that I have found my KIRCHER name spelled at least 20 different ways so far. Including some seemingly odd ways like KURTZER and CIRKIR/CIRHIR. Obvouisly, I still don't know the original spelling in my family. I think it is KIRCHER, but then again, like I stated, I'm not positive.

My gg grandfather Louis KIRCHER was born in Weinsberg, Wuerttemberg, about 1836, according to his Civil War discharge paper. He was in the 29th NY Infantry Company C.

The 29th NY Infantry was in both Battles of Bull Run, Cross Keys, White Sulphur Springs and Chancellorsville during the time of my gg grandfather's service.

My gg grandfather is listed as a POW. Unfortunately I don't know where or when. He was paroled August 10, 1862. His 2 year term ended on June 20th, 1863.

Louis' occupation was a baker. He married Henrietta WEINBERG. Henrietta was born April 1844 in Germany and immigrated to the US in 1866 according to the 1900 census. According to ancestry.com records, they married in Cumberland County, Bridgeton, NJ on October 14, 1877.

Louis and Henrietta (CIRKIR/CIRHIR) lived in Philadelphia, PA. according to the 1880 census. Their children were Louis age 7, Frederick age 5, John age 3, and Henrietta age 11 months.

My gg grandfather Louis died from cholera and was burried in Fernwood Cemetery just outside of Philadelphia. He was burried on September 2, 1899. My gg grandmother Henrietta received a widow's pension according to ancestry.com records.

According to the 1900 census, Henrietta KERHCHER is a widow living with the 5 out of 7 childen that are still alive. The are listed as...

Louis age 27
Fredrick age 25
Henrietta age 20
Christian age 18
William age 14

My gg grandmother Henrietta died and was burried in the same plot as my gg grandfather Louis. She was burried on November 6, 1926.

Others burried in the same plot are as follows...

John KESRHER burried November 22, 1881 (the 6th child of Louis and Henrietta? The 3 year old on the 1880 census?)
Charlie KERCHER burried August 18, 1885 (the 7th child of Louis and Henrietta?)
