Welcome to the Kirena Family Genealogy Forum. This forum
is for all those descendants from Hana Konewa and Thomas
Keelan. One person from each of the children are bringing
their lines together and on July 18 we will have this
completed. If your family have gone overseas and not been in touch with Ruatoria links please post your forum here
so that we catch up with you and your links.

Thomas was an irishman who went out to Victoria Australia,
did some mining and joined the 1st Waikato Regiment on
26 September 1863 at Melbourne, came to New Zealand and
fought in the Regiment at Tauranga and Gate Pa. There
is a gap of how he met Hana and where and so forth. My
dad was Wiremu Tamati and a lot of my stories are oral as
he was the youngest son, he got to travel with Bill (thats
what his dad was called) including Wi Kokas two sisters
in Davenport in Auckland. Dad and I went back to Davenport
in 1980s to look for the house, but things had changed
too much for him to remember exactly. Anyone in Auckland
who is able to research this we would greatly apprecite
your help. The time frame you would be looking at would
be between 1865 until 1920 or thereabouts. Priscilla and
Ellen were the girls names. Rumour has it that Thomas
took the girls to Australia, my guess would be Victoria,
Melbourne or New south wales.
We are thinking of planning a reunion in the very near
future so keep looking at this space.
