Kirkbride Settlement: The only Kirkbride settlement that I am aware of in either Monroe or Belmont Counties OH is located north of Woodsfield. Take Route 800 north out of town about three miles to township road T646 on your right. Turn right onto T646 perhaps a half-mile to township route T78. Turn left (south) for a short mile . There is a slight curve and you will see a farmhouse on the left and a small tumbledown hay barn on the right. At least, this was where we visited in 1996. To the right of this barn is the heavily overgrown Kirkbride Cemetery with much poison ivy. If you tramp through it, you will find the graves of John and Martha Kirkbride as well as David Kirkbride and his family. Most stones are gone but a few still remain. The settlement was in this area and more information can be found in the Woodsfield Library. Other Kirkbrides are buried in Woodsfield, Clarington, Jerusalem and other towns.
