Carl,
While this is a long shot, I thought I would post this message, after seeing that your Luncy D. Kirksey had a daughter named Mary B.

My grandmother's grandmother was Mary B. Kirksey born in 1855, very close to the time of the birth of your Luncy. Mary had a sister named Martha M. Kirksey who lived with her and her husband Felix Gil Roberts. Both Mary and her sister show up in the 1880 Census in San Augustine Co., TX. The Census states that their father and mother were born in AL. There seems to be a lot of simularity between what you've written. When I was little I asked my grandmother about her grandmother. She told me that Mary B. had long red hair. She also said other than that she could only remember that Mary B. was an orphan. I guess that since Martha lived with her older sister Mary there might be some truth to the orphan story. If this is the case this maybe why it is so hard to proved who the parents of my Mary B. and your Luncy D. are. Perhaps their parents were killed in the Civil War. I have the name of Martha's husband somewhere but just don't know where right now.

With best regards,
