Mine may be a shot in the dark, but there are just too many similarities.

My gg-grandfather was Gideon Kirksey, born (according to an old family Bible) October 6, 1828. He married Siddie Travis December 22, 1850 in probably Butler County, AL. He was in the 36th AL Infantry Company F (Civil War) and died November 10, 1862 in Mobile, AL from pneumonia. According to the 1860 Monroe County, AL census, he was born in SC -- but according to the muster roll of the 36th Co. F, he was born in Henry County, AL.

He brother Noah Jackson Kirksey was born March 5, 1831 and died April 26, 1904 (tombstone). Some of the censuses give AL and others give GA as his birthplace.

Now I have wondered if my Gideon was born in Henry County, GA (not AL) and is kin in some way to your Gideon Kirksey. Are you able to shed any light? The parents of my Gideon and Noah Jackson have been a brick wall for a long time.

Ken Johnson --
