This family has been well-researched by James C. Kirksey, who lives in Lubbock, TX.
James is in his 70's & doesn't have a computer.
I am fortunate that I was given a copy of his work, so I can help you.
Ervin/Irvin Hatley Kirksey bca. 1850, prob. in Shelby Co. TX., died 1915 & marr. Fannie Mae Mauldin bca1859 & dca1887.
He was 2nd of 7 known children of Ervin L. & Louisa Jackson Kirksey.
Children of Ervin L. & Louisa:
James W. bc 1848 b. Haywood Co, TN
Irvin H. bc 1850 b. prob Shelby Co, TX
Sarah bc 1852 b. Caldwell Co, TX
Margaret bc 1855 "
John S. bc 1859 b. prob Gonzales Co., TX
Mary bc 1860 b. Gonzales Co., TX
Thomas Jackson bc 1863 b. Caldwell Co, TX
Ervin L. was the younger of 2 sons of Bryant H.(Herndon?) Kirksey & Lucinda Mauldin Kirksey.
Bryant H. died young & Lucinda remarried ca1839 to John H. Brown.
Ervin L.'s older brother was John Mauldin Kirksey.
Ervin L. was killed in the Civil War, & his brother John Mauldin Kirksey then married Ervin's widow, Louisa, but she died in Dec 1872, less than 2 mo. after marriage.
Your researcher James C. Kirksey descends from John M. Kirksey. Fannie Mae Mauldin & Lucinda Mauldin Kirksey were related, because the Mauldins & Browns came out to Texas with these Kirkseys, & this is a case of them marrying back into each other's families.
Ervin L. was b ca 1824 in Madison Co, AL, & his family moved to Haywood Co, TN a few months after his birth.
Ervin L.'s wife Louisa b ca 1829 in TN, dau. of James Jackson, & Ervin and Louisa married ca 1847, Haywood Co,TN.
John M. Kirksey had married & had a number of his own children before he remarried his dead brother's widow.
John & Ervin's parents, Bryant H. & Lucinda M. Kirksey had come from South Carolina, where Bryant is supposed to be the oldest son of John Kirksey & Sarah P.Herndon Kirksey, who lived in Edgefield Co, SC, each having previously come from North Carolina, where possibly Bryant was born, if not Edgefield Co, SC, in 1790's.
John & Sarah Kirksey are my 3rd gr-grandparents, through one of their daughters.
Bryant m. Lucinda after they left SC, marr. 1819 Madison Co, AL.
Lucinda was daughter of James Mauldin, who came to Edgefield Co,SC before 1805, & I think lived in same neighborhood as the Kirkseys.
