See below what I have on the Kirkseys. I have a different father for Aquilla based on an 1870 census and 1880 census, but I could be wrong. See what you think. I hope to hear from you.

Descendants of Noah Kirksey


Generation No. 1

       1. Noah2 Kirksey (Denzy1) was born Jul 1831 in North Carolina, and died in Alabama. He married Margaret Unknown. She was born 1837 in Alabama, and died in Alabama.

Notes for Noah Kirksey:
1870: Noah 35, Margaret 28 and son Quilla 16 are farmers in McKinley. Next door is a Sykes Kirksey, 32 - a brother? - and also a Denzy Kirksey, 55 - father?
1880: Noah and Margaret live in McKinley next to son Aquilla, his wife Laura and their four children, including Stella (later married Arthur Brown.)
1900: Noah and Margaret live in McKinley with granddaughter Susan, 11. Susan and Noah are listed as farm laborers. Susan can read but not write. Margaret had four children, only one living.
       
Children of Noah Kirksey and Margaret Unknown are:
+       2       i.       Zedick3 Kirksey, born 1852 in Alabama; died in Boiling Springs, Wilcox, AL.
+       3       ii.       Aquilla Kirksey, born 1855 in Alabama; died in Alabama.


Generation No. 2

       2. Zedick3 Kirksey (Noah2, Denzy1) was born 1852 in Alabama, and died in Boiling Springs, Wilcox, AL. He married Esther House, daughter of Unknown House and Betsy Unknown. She was born Dec 1853 in Alabama, and died in Boiling Springs, Wilcox, AL.

Notes for Zedick Kirksey:
1880: Zedick lives in Boiling Springs with wife Esther and children Aquila (after his uncle), Charlotte, Zedick Jr. and Robert.

Notes for Esther House:
1900: Esther is divorced. Son Yadick/Zadick lives with her, also her mother and niece. All four are listed as farmers.

       13       ii.       Lena Hodges, born 1898 in Marengo, AL.

She married Arthur Brown 09 Dec 1893 in Marengo, AL, son of Archie Brown and Bettie Overstreet. He was born 1872 in Boiling Springs, Wilcox, AL, and died Aft. 1930 in Boiling Springs, Wilcox, AL.

Notes for Arthur Brown:
1880: Arthur and father Archie and sister Annie live in Boiling Springs. No mother. May not be the right Arthur but it is only one in either Wilcox or Marengo counties.
1900: Arthur and Stella Brown, married 4 years, 1 child, James, 3 years old. Live in Thornton Village, Marengo county, AL. Both listed as farm laborers. Black. Cannot read or write.
1910: Arthur and Stella live in Boiling Springs, Wilcox county, AL. Married 17 years, 12 children, 6 living. Jimmie, Mose L, Pessie, Earl, Arthur Jr., Cleveland, from 14 years to 4 months. Jimme 14 and Mose 8 are farm laborers. Read or write: Arthur no, Stella yes, Jimmie yes, Mose no. All listed as black.
1920: Arthur and Stella in Boiling Springs. 9 children at home: Percy Earl Arthur, Clinton, MENZO 9, Cecil, Lily Belle, David and Quilla. Percy and Earl can read and write; all others no notation. Percy, Earl and Arthur all farm laborers. Arthur is listed as black, all others as mulatto.
1930: Arthur and Stella in Boiling Springs, 4 children at home: Cecil, David, Lillie B, and Quilla; all have been in school in the last year and can read and write. Stella and read and write. Only Arthur is a farm laborer. All listed as Negro. Son Mose L., 21, is next door, married to Rachel, 17.
       
Children of Stella Kirksey and Arthur Brown are:
       16       i.       James5 Brown, born May 1897 in Alabama.
+       17       ii.       Mose L. Brown, born 1901 in Alabama.
       18       iii.       Percy Brown, born 1904 in Alabama.
