FYI:The 'James City Historic District' nomination process was started in 2000 for inclusion in the Virginia Landmarks Register (VLR) and the National Park Service, National Register of Historic Places (NPS/NRHP). This process was started by Olivia Bruce and Emily Bruce, who are the persons responsible for having the property documented and listed.
As of January 2001 it had been accepted on the VLR and following that it was accepted to the NPS/NRHP in July 2001. The 'James City Historic District' only includes 280 acres of our family farm (which is 432 +/- acres total), on the East side of US 29. The portion of the property on the West side of US 29 is not included.
I have the copies of the correspondence requesting the property be listed that goes with this file, which includes a letter from Eric James and two Kirtley family members - Connie Allinson and Kenneth Allinson. All three of these letters were dated and received in 2003, which was two years after the property had been accepted to both of the registers.
I would be more than happy to provide the correspondence file to anyone that is interested. It is a PDF file that I can easily Email to you.
To see the actual nomination packet it is posted on the Virginia Department of Historic Resources public website, so you should be able to download the PDF at the link below under the Madison County listings.
