Lawrence County, AR, Loose Probate Papers: 1815-1890

Hutson, Keziah:
d. - date not included.
Adm'r: George W. Montgomery
Adm'r de bonis non: April 1875, Charles Coffin apt'd. Montgomery had died.
Heirs: James, Catherine, Ellen, and Jesse; and Angeline Coe; and Mary Ann Fletcher---all of Lawrence County

Lewis, Jesse, Catherine and Ellen (minors):
Curator and gdn.: 1875, A. B. Israel apt'd.
Mother: Themother of these minors was Mrs. Keziah Lewis, who, prior to her death in 1873, had married a Mr. Hudson.

Lewis, Jesse, Ellen and Catherine (minors):
This is a second folder on these minors. The only paper in it is an 1879 statement of account by A. B. Israel.

NOTE: The Coe probate papers refer to G. W.'s wife as "Angeline," so she's "Nancy Angeline Lewis," the Nancy A. of the census data. By putting together data, Frances E. is Frances Ellen (called Ellen), Martha C. is Martha Catherine (called Cassie), and Mary A. is Mary Ann. In probate information, Bethina Louise is not mentioned--she probably died before 1873??? From Telmachus Whittaker's probate, Jesse Lewis' wife, Elizabeth Whittaker, was called Betsy Ann Lewis.

Lawrence County Marriages of children:
Nancy A. Lewis m George W. Coe 16 June 1872 Book D-166
Jessie Lewis m. Elizabeth Whittaker 16 May 1880 F-245
James Lewis m. Lizzie Hardin 23 April 1881 G-210
Cassia Lewis m. Preston C. Edmondson 5 June 1881 G-095

The Hardins lived next to Keziah in 1870.

Other Lawrence County marriages I thought might connected to the famiy:
Mrs. Elizabeth Lewis m. Charles Corcoran 6 Nov 1892 L-006
Leander Jones Lewis m. Sarah Whitker 22 May 1877 E-216
Woot Johnson m. Cynthia Dowdy in 1866 (didn't get details)

More census data:
1870 Lawrence Couty, Arkansas:
21/21 Fletcher, Lafayette 23
Mary A. 17
Nancy C. 2

11/81 Willaby Johnson 25, b. IN
Cintha 25, b. KY
Evelina 2, b. AR
Julia 10, b. MO

NOTE: Willoughby Lewis' sister, Anna, married Thomas Johnson, in Greene County, Indiana, and lived in Douglas County, MO, also. Willaby Johnson is probably their son, as is Jacob Johnson, age 11 b. MO, living with Kesiah Lewis in 1870 and Julia Johnson, age 10 b. MO, in this census. I don't have proof though. Willoughby Lewis was called "Woot" so it makes sense Willaby Johnson would be called "Woot" as in his marriage record.

1880 Lawrence County, Arkansas census:
110/115: Lewis, Jessee 21 MO IL KY
E. 21 AR KY MO
78/83: Coe, G. W. 30 KY KY KY
Nancy 22 IL -- --
Kizzia 5 AR KY IL
Cassa 3 AR KY IL
Jesse 2/12 AR KY IL
Lewis, Cassa 15 AR -- -- (sister-in-law)
Jones, G. B. 46 TN VA VA
S. A. 45 TN TN TN
(4 Jones children ages 4-18 all b. TN)

I wish I had copied the full Jones census data as I'm intrigued by Leander Jones Lewis. He marries a Whittaker as does Jesse Lewis, and it's probaby a coincidence, but I've thought that the Leander Musick family is connected to the Lewis family. They are neighbors in Douglas Co.MO--maybe a cue to follow up on.

I've included more information here than that pertaining to Willoughby Lewis and Kissiah Kissee (dau of Thomas, b. 1798 NC), but it has given me more puzzle pieces for my Lewis family. I spent a day in the Arkansas History Commission and Archives, and checked all Lawrence Co material. I did not find who Kizziah Kissee's second husband was other than that he was a Hutson. I also checked Randolph Co. marriage records, as she lived at Walnut Ridge, very close to Randolph Co. line. It may be he was the husband of Sarah Whittaker, who married a Hutson, and was dec'd according to Telemachus Whittaker's probate in 1883. There are lots of clues in the probate records--I used the pubished records--the originals are in the museum at Powhatan, Arkansas.
