Dear H. V., My husband descends from the Kissee family, and I am also researching Jeff Kissee of Lawrence County, AR. One of Jeff's grandsons says that Jeff had a brother named Robert Kissee, and that is as far back as he has personal knowledge. From census and cemetery records I have been able to piece together at least part of the immediate family of Jeff Kissee, who was listed on the 1900 and 1910 census of Lawrence County, AR. In 1900 he was indexed as Jeff KISSER, and in 1910 he was indexed as JEB J. KINEL: Jeff J. (or J. Jeff) Kissee, b. 15 April 1865 MO Vina "Vinnie," b. 17 Jan 1865 MO Geo. L. LEIFF / STUFF, May 1884 AR STEPSON (surname illegible) Jessie Orien Kissee, b. 2 Oct 1890 SON Tilden / Tilman "Till" Kissee b. May 1894 AR SON Annania "Annie" Kissee b. February 1896 AR DAU William J. / Willie / Bill Kissee b. June 1899 AR SON Nancy Rebecca "Beckie" Kissee b. ca. 1904 AR SON Since Vinnie had a prior marriage, perhaps Jeff was also previously married. Marriage records for Vinnie and her first husband and again to Jeff will probably indicate if she was the mother of all of the children of these census records. Jeff may also have had older children. Jeff, Vina, and Jessie are buried in the Kissee Cemetery in Lawrence County, AR, and a listing of those buried there is published on the Lawrence County US Genweb. With this much information, you'd think I could get back to the 1880 census for Jeff or his brother, Robert Kissee. And if not that, perhaps the 1870 census, to find Jeff and Robert with their parents. I tried every weird spelling I could think of, but I cannot not locate them. I wondered if his middle name might have been Jeff, and his first name started with J, and might have been Jeb or John. I found three Kissee children (indexed as Kiser, and evidently orphans) on the 1900 Lawrence County AR, census: Henry, b. 1880 AR, Nancy Jane, b. 1801, AR, and Robert, b. 1886 AR. They lived with their grandmother, Sarah HARRIS, b. 1826 MO. I don't know how these persons fit into the family, but since they were in Lawrence County, AR, I figure they is some degree of kinship to Jeff Kissee. J. B. HARRIS (1825-1858) is also buried in the Kissee Cemetery. Since Jeff died in 1924, have you looked for an AR Death Certificate for him? Vina died in 1930, and there should be one for her, too. Do you know if there there obits for them? You may contact me offline at MaryFernS@aol.com Notify Administrator about this message?
