Jacob & Mary Kissner - Switzerland to Ohio

Jacob Kissner born June 17, 1821 in Ketighofen, Canton Solothurn, Switzerland and died June 16, 1909 in Coshocton County, Ohio. He married Mary ? in 1848. She died on September 19, 1884.

They had the follwoing children: Jacob & Mary. Mary married Arch Rodgers, son of Evan Rodgers & Margaret Hammel.

Jacob Kissner was born at Ketighofen, Canton Solothurn, Switzerland on July 17, 1821. He, with his wife and son left the fatherland and came to America in 1855. At first he located near Mohawk Village and later purchased the farm on Darling Run where he was living at the time of his death. He was converted at the Mt. Tabor church upwards of 50 years ago and from that time until a few years ago he was an earnest and faithful member of the Evangelical church and at the time of his decease he was a member of the M.P. church at Darling Run.

He was united in marriage with Mary Kissner in 1848. To this union were born two children, Jacob and Mary E. His wife was called to the Great Beyond on Sept. 19, 1884, and Jacob on July 23, 1907, Mary E., the surviving child is the wife of Arch Rodgers. Four grandchildren, a large number of relatives and friends survive him and mourn the loss of this upright, noble and God-fearing man.

His death occurred June 16, 1909, making him 87 years 10 months and 30 days of age. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. H.S. Willis after which the body was laid to rest in the Darling Run cemetery. The pallbearers were his nephews Nicholas Fischer, Earl and Elmer Kissner, Robert and John Kunckle, Jacob Stuber.

The 17th annual Kissner reunion was held Sunday at the old Kissner homestead on the Warsaw-Nellie road. A basket dinner was enjoyed at noon by: Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Fischer, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Fischer and children, Patty Jo, Don and Lynn, Mrs. Lester Motz and daughter, Dorothy, Mr. and Mrs. F.D. Riffey, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barrick, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lonsinger and son, Clyde Jr., Mrs. Garnet Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. John Rodehaver, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Barrick, Harold Reese and daughters, Juantia and Coleen, Keith, Ruth and Michael Barrick, Mr. and Mrs. E.P. Fischer, Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Urey, J.J. Fisher, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller and children, Firl, Dale, Blanche and Elden, Marilyn Surbey, Mr. and Mrs. S.C. Kissner, Russel Kissner, John H. Bember, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Rodock and daughter, Mary Jane, Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Barnes, Mabel Husted, Donna Husted and Ralph Darling.

Officers elected for 1945 are president, S.C. Kissner of Delaware; secretary, Mrs. C.C. Rodock of Nellie; treasurer, J.J. Fisher of Newark. One member of the family, Sgt. Russell Kissner, was killed in Italy on June 3 of this year.

The place of the 1945 reunion will be decided by the officers.
