Kitt in Butler Dist., Wayne County, WV 1800s
I have been seeking information about my great grandmother, Rebecca FANNIN, born 1850, I believe in the area of Upper Gragston Creek, Butler District, Wayne County, now West Virginia. Her parents were Silas and Polly (Ferguson) FANNIN.Her siblings were Theadore, Easton, Jeremiah, John, Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Mary Belle, Celistia, and William. She married 1st Workman and divorced him in 1877.We were told that she “remarried and moved away.”Not having the name of her second husband has been a major research obstacle. In almost forty years of research, I’ve found no one who has a complete record on her family. So now, I am hopefully inquiring from descendants of neighbors who lived in the area where she grew up.
I have learned that Rebecca’s father, Silas FANNIN served with the 10th Kentucky Cavalry in the civil war.He performed marriages in Wayne County between 1870 and 1887.
James Kitts, b. about 1855 and Virginia Cyrus were married by Silas Fannin 10 August 1877.
In Butler District, Wayne County 1880 West Virginia Census there were two KITTS households.H. G., b. about 1824, and wife, Agness Kitts.H. K. born about 1852, and wife, Caroline Kitts.
I would like to have any information on the folks who lived along Upper Gragston Creek, Butler District, Wayne County, West Virginia 1850 through 1890.If you descend from this KITTS family, please check your memorabilia and if you have anything relative to the Silas Fannin family, please share.Thank you.
