The Nunda, McHenry County, Illinois federal censuses for 1860, 1870, 1880 and 1910 list a Willis J Kittle born about 1856, son of James Kittle, born about 1833 in Canada. If this Willis is too old to be your grandfather there may be some other connection. It appears that in the mid-1840's Stephen and William Kittle, both probably Canadians, settled in McHenry County. I would be interested in sharing information (and some hypotheses) about them.
