Lori--
My g-g-g grandfather was William Kivlan of Boston and Cambridge. He was supposedly born in Boston in the early 1830s and had at least two brothers that I have found, George and Thomas Jr. Margaret is certainly the right age to be a sister; if she is her parents were Thomas Sr. and Anna Cannon Kivlan. Thomas Sr. first appears in the Boston city directory in 1837 along with a Henry and James Kivlan.
William was a printer in Cambridge and his sons were as well.I have just started on the Kivlans; I am sure there will be a lot more info in time. Have you been able to find any Kivlans in the US census for the last half of the 19th Century? If so please let me know where they are located.I have had no luck.
On another note, last week at the National Archives I found naturalization papers for a John and Peter Kivlan who arrived in the US at Eastport, Maine in October of 1830 at ages 15 and 9 respectively.William sponsored Peter for naturalization in 1856. I will be going to the Mass. archives in the next few weeks to try to figure out just how William, John, Peter, Henry and James (and perhaps Margaret) were related and will let you know what I discover.
Can you help me with this problem?Peter's naturalization papers state that he was born in Townshend, County Leitrim but I cannot find any village/town/area of that name.Do you have any clues?
Anne
