Hi James:

Was doing some research on Sebastian Kizer when I ran across you two postings to the genforum (619.html & 621.html). I am researching this line for my wife (Shirley Ann Wilburn Shotwell - her mother was Reba Claudine Kizer, daughter of Claude and Esther Abigail Kizer).

First, I have a copy of thd 1880 Census of Chautauqua co., Kansas, which lists the family of Sebastian, to wit:

Sebastian, 56, b. Virginia, 1824, parents both b. Virginia
Cory C., 26, b. Illinois, 1854, father b. Va, mother b. Ill.
Ozias B., 21, b. Illinois, 1859, " "
Mattie, 20, b. Illinois, 1860 " "
Sarah, 17, b. Illinois, 1863 " "
Ella, 15, b. Illinois, 1865 " "
Walter F., 3, b. Indian Terr., 1877" "

You will note that there is no wife mentioned. So, if Walter is the son of Sebastian's 2nd wife, then she too must be deceased by 1880.

From an aunt of my wife we also have another child, C. Mary, probably b. bet. 1854-1859.

Now, you mention children of his first wife as Ike, Claude, Wiggs, Kate, and Sade.

I make Cory C., above, to be Cory Claude, and Kate I make to be C. Mary, not found above, or Catherine Mary. None of this is gospel, but it seems to fit.

Now, I have no idea (nor does my wife) who Ike, Wiggs, and Sade are. Perhaps Sade is Sarah, but not sure. My wife seems to recall mention of an "Uncle Wiggs", but if he is an uncle, where does he fit into the family (he is not listed in the census above - for the that matter neither is C. Mary, but I figure her to be married and gone from the home by the time of the census).

Now, as to those mentioned in the 1880 census, and elswhere, I have the following:

Coray C./Cory Claude Kizer, b. 1854
Mary E. Kizer (not mentioned - probably married and gone), b. bet. 1854-1859
Ozias Baily Kizer, b. 1859, d. 1926
Martha A. "Mattie" Kizer, b. 1860
Sara Bell "Sarah" Kizer, b. 1863
Clara Ella Kizer, b. 1865
Catherine May "Kate" (C. May) Kizer (not mentioned), b. abt. 1873 (if she is Kate, then this year of birth is definitely no good - if she is not Kate, then she must have d. by 1880)
Walter F. Kizer, b. 7/27/1877 (your data - I had "1877"), Indian Terr.

Now, it has been conjectured that Sebastian died in Oklahoma, and he may well have. But, I think that I have found him in the 1900 Otero Co., Colarado Census, District ED 80, Precinct 2, Manzanola Divison. If this is him, then he was born in Pennsylvania and was 80 years old in 1900, which would put his year of birth in 1820, vice 1824 (as determined from the 1880 Census mentioned above). I'd say that it's a good bet that this is our Sebastian, but don't have any proof positive! If so, then he may have died in Colorado. Worth looking into, don't you think?

I guess that about does it from here, I have information on Ozias Baily Kizer's descendants if you're interested!

Look forward to hearing from you.
