Thank you for the response! I believe the line from Benjamin Kizer of PA is the same line that my Kizers come from. Maybe your Robert Kizer was Vernal/Vernon's brother? Vernal/Vernon is the same person (both names are used in the census records). I have not found him in any census records after 1870. He consistently says he was born in Alabama. He gives his date of birth between 1824-26. In the 1850 census records of Henderson Co, TN, his wife is listed as Catherine. Their sons are Nicholas (6), Robert (4), and Benjamin (1). In 1860, his wife is listed as L.E. (later on, in 1870, her name is spelled out; it's Lavinia). The three boys are living with them. He gives his occupation as blacksmith in both 1860 and 1870. In 1870, he and Lavinia are in Decatur Co, TN. The only children with them are two girls: my g-grandmother, Lucinda (9) and Nancy (looks like the number 6). The census says Nancy was born in Illinois.

I know that Nicholas Kizer served in the 27th Infantry in the Civil War and collected a Civil War soldier's pension (one of the few ever granted). I cannot find any records of his brothers beyond the 1860 census. Those two would really have been too young to have joined the Confederacy. There is a strange record in Nicholas Kizer's Confederate papers. He was discharged because of his age; he was 17. However, above the age of 16 was not unacceptable for the Confederacy. It seems that his cousin, Thomas Kizer, who was a ranking officer, might have had something to do with it. It looks like Thomas was the son of Vernal Kizer's brother, William.

I have found Henderson County land grants that were issued to Vernal Kizer, William F. Kizer, and David Kizer between 1846 and 1854.

I have found many, many records of Kizers in Cabarrus Co, NC, Anson Co, NC, Bedford Co, TN, and Hardin Co, TN. I have another line of German ancestors who came from Cabarrus Co to Henderson Co.
