This is the only real history we have, it was cut from a newspaper. Also When He Married, he changed his last name from Kleber to Kleeber. My father Hilbert Kleeber often said that Augustine had said that his father was a famous German general.
Augustine Kleeber. One of the pioneer settlers of the town of Winfield died last Thursday October 7th 1909 several years ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis, from which he never fully recovered although he was able to be about, through quite feeble and times. He was born in Wittenberg Germany July 31st, 1825. He came to America when he was 20 years old and stopped near Albany NY. He was married in Albany November 15, 1832, to Miss Maria Hart. In 1833 they came to Sauk County and settled in the town of Winfield. About 14 years ago he retired from the farm and came to Reedsburg to live in a comfortable home. The golden wedding was celebrated seven years ago and in a large family gathering and homecoming. Since that time he has often visited the farm of his son A.L. Kleeber in the town of Winfield and it was at that place his final sickness and death occurred. His wife still survives and all of the family and most of the grandchildren were present at the funeral. The children are MRS. W. R. Thayer of Winfield. Leonard of La Crosse, A.L. of Winfield, Dr. J. W. of Oshkosh, and a son-in-law Louis Strnebing also of Oshkosh. The funeral was held last Sunday conducted by his pasture Rev. J.T. Sharman of the Baptist Church. The services were held in the Presbyterian Church, as the Baptist Church is being rebuilt.
