Marge let me give you the information I have on August E. Kleist and you see if it matches up with your information okay. Now keep in mind at this time a lot of name's were the same so be careful.
August E. Kleist b. 1845 d. 1906 age 61 he was hit by a train when trying to side step another oncoming train a no win situation his brother Charles (Carl german for Charles)was a witness to it all. I found through Charles death certifiacte His fathers name was Christion Kleist and Charles came from Warlang,germany part of Poland now. Charles came over with his wife Joanna Schmokle they were married November 27, 1864 and they arrived in Portage on June 24, 1866 although it does not say if they came from some other part of the united states first or germany. Charles was older he was b. December 1, 1840.
August married Wilhelmina Febuary 15, 1874 their children together were:
1. Bertha M.M. b. 10-4-1875 m. 1897 Stephen Harry Gruenhagen St. John's Luthern
2.William August L. Kleist b. 12-18-1877 m.May 14, 1902 Edith Agnes Elizabeth Nitz
3.Emma b.November 1878 m. August 30, 1911 to Albert Klatt.
4. Mary b. 3-13-1880 m. Albert Nhels on 3-4-1902
5.Emil Leo Theodore b. 4-20-1882 M. Bertha Gardahl on 8-22-19009 second wife was Berthas sister Emma gardahl May 1, 1912.
6.Edith b. May about 1885 M. Frank Zinke on November 17, 1904.
7. Edward b.August 1889 d. 1969 m.10-17-1912 to Edith Grunke.
8. Louis august William b. July 12, 1891 d. July 14, 1954 M. Charlotte Elizabeth Weidling (Hinickle) on June 17, 1914.
The step children are Charles b. 3-27-1872 and Lizze 1873.
There is no child that has the name Harry unless it is a grandchild that lived with them for a time. Where did you find the names of the parents because I found no names for parents under August Kleist I had to look under his brother Charles and that shows a totaly diffrent name then Fredrick and dose not mention the mothers I might agree with you on the Pennsylvina part of it because I recall seeing PA. on the 1900 census but did not know what it stood for. So please get back with me so we can sort this through.
