I have the following family group from an 1860 census for Charleston, SC:

John Klinck 62 (b. abt 1797-98) place of birth looks like Holstein but I don't know where that might be..could be wrong about this.
No wife was listed...possibly deceased
Children listed were:
John, Jr. 28 (b. abt 1832)SC
Henrietta 25 (b. abt 1835)SC
Georgianna 24 (b. abt 1836)SC
Theodore 22 (b. abt 1838)SC
Carolina 20 (b. abt 1840)SC
Gustavius 16 (b. abt 1844)SC
Michael 11 (b. abt 1849)SC
Of course there may be others besides these children that were on their own, especially if the marriage record below is for the father of this family group.

Also, listed separately, was George Klinck, 17 NY (b. abt 1843), a clerk

Here is the Mormon record for a marriage between John G. Klinck , born abt 1797, and Sarah Henderson Irby about 1821 - they were said to be "of Laurens, SC". This could be the father in the list above - the birth dates seem to match. I also have located Hayne Irby Klinck, born abt 1836, living in Fayette, TN, who I believe is a son of John G. Klinck and Sarah Irby.

It seems likely that your John Klinck may be the John, Jr. listed in the 1860 census for Charleston, above, since that John had a brother named Theodore and yours had a daughter named Theodora. It would seem likely that he might name a child after his brother, even if it was a girl.

I am interested in this SC family only because the one George Klinck (aged 17)stated he was born in New York where my Klinck search is centered. (Don't know if George was another son of the father, John, in the census above, but it seems possible.) Many there in New York are named George, Henry, John, Michael - very similar names to those in this SC family.

I hope this helps you! If you have any other information on these SC Klincks, I would love to have you share it with me. I will add your query data to my database, too.
