1st things first: The proper spelling of the Klinefelter sur-name is KLEINFELDER. It is German and translates to english as: little field or tender of little field. The 1st currently known immigration of this sur-name into America ocurred in Sep 1750 when a Melchoir Kleinfelder arrived in Phila., PA. A year later, several bros. (or cousins ?) and his father (or uncle?) arrived in Phila.
They all came from an area of 3 villages known as Lohrhaupten, Floersbach and Kempfenbrunn which are in the Hesse state of Germany.
Joseph Kleinfelder was b. 1810 in Shrewsbury twp., York Co., PA to Joh. Jacob & Juliana (RUHL) Kleinfelder. He m. Elizabeth Wentling in 1835. My records show 6 children b. to Joseph & Elizabeth: Julia, Jacob, Peter, Mary, John & Samuel. I do not have good dates of b. for these children, but have reason to believe they were all b. in Morrow Co., OH. Note on family: In May of 1857, Joe & his family moved from their 80 acre farm in
Morrow Co, OH to a farm about 2 miles east of Hiawatha, KANS. Joe
died the following year. Joseph d. 1858 of erysipelas & is bur. in the Hiawatha Cem., Hiawatha, KS. Elizabeth d. 1896 & is also bur. same cem. I have some additional info on the 5 of the 6 children. E-mail me if you care for more data on this Kleinfelder family.
