A cousin of my late father, Lloyd Francis Klontz (04JY1925 - 03DE1989), did some research about 15 to 20 years ago and, as I recall, found Mathias Klontz who married Barbara Brandt in Bin(s)field or Breidfield Luxembourg about 1820.

I know my father and grandfather, John Valentine Klontz (07MA1897 - 25JA1967), always said our family came from Luxembourg via Germany in the mid to late 1800s. I also recall there being a Valentine Klontz somewhere in the picture, my grandfather's grandfather I think.

I also seem to recall there being some sort of pattern with some grandsons getting named after grandfathers. BTW, my grandfather's father was another Mathias (d. 1941), and my uncle is Mayo Mathias. My son is Matthew Adam Louis Lloyd. I wanted to name him Mathias, but my wife wouldn't go for that. All of his other names is a whole 'nother story.

I hope this helps and if you're interested, I can probably dig up the family tree thing my father's cousin drew up. Let me know at my e-mail address as I just tripped accross this posting while searching for a dead namesake.
