Starting Sept. 30, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

My maternal grandmother, Adolphina Schmidt (Smith, in the New World)(nee Kludt, of course) had a brother who lived in Tacoma Washington. He was my great uncle Ed. I assume his name was Edward which is probably an Americanized form of a similar German name. His wife's name was Bertha and I think they married after they arrived in the USA. They had one son and four daughters. He, himself, immigrated to the States before WWI. I think the family came from a town in the west of the Ukraine. The family was originally from Germany, probably Saxony, Mecklenburg or someplace nearby, but lived in a German community in the Ukraine.
