Hello Andreas,

Sorry about any confusion my e-mails have caused. I will try to answer your questions. I know that Johan in German is John in English, and I believe Janos is also John. I have Hermina's birthday as February 20, 1888 as information from my Grandpa Knab, I believe it is correct.

William Knab is born July 17, 1885, which I obtained from a copy of his death certificate. I have Catherina/Katherina spelled both ways in different documents as well as Heigel/Hiegel. On her husband Franz's death certificate, it lists her as Katherina with a "K" but does not list her maiden name and just says, "Katherina Knab." So, I think it is probably with a "K." As for, Hiegel/Heigel, I am not sure.

Franz Knab's birthdate is listed as "June 1851" on his death certificate.

Joseph Knab and Susanna Eberhardt had eight children I know of. I only have 2 exact birth dates and then the other six I have a calculated year of birth. Their children were:

1. Joseph Knab, Born August 1, 1906 in Philadelphia, Died Dec. 20, 1991 in Philadelphia

2. Jacob Knab, Born 1908, Died Dec. 22, 1988

3. Elizabeth Knab, Born Sept. 15, 1911 in Pennsylvania, Died Nov. 13 1999 in Philadelphia

4. Minnie Knab Born Oct. 11, 1912 in Pennsylvania, Died April 26, 1981

5. Anna Knab, Born 1918 in Pennsylvania, I do not know any death info.

6. Helen Knab, Born 1919 in Pennsylvania. Died after 1930

7. William Knab, Born 1923 in Pennsylvania, Died Approx. 2002

8. Hermina Knab, No birth or death date

On Elizabeth Kranker, the only info. I have now is that she was born in 1918.

In speaking with my grandfather, he told me that his mother and father(William Knab and Hermina Kranker) decided that they wished to focus on earning money and making a living, and so they asked Franz and Katherina to take their children back to Mokrin. Several years later, William and Hermina had had several other children, so they decided to have their first two girls and the grandparents come back over.

I would be happy to send you the birth/death dates I have for William Knab and Hermina Krankers children, but as some are still living, I would prefer to do it by e-mail if possible. Do you mind sending me your e-mail address?

My e-mail address is I look forward to learning more about our joint ancestors!
