thanks for replying leon..
as you said alot of knappers came from the kidsgrove goldenhill and sandyford area and also snowhill which i think is a place in between kidsgrove and talke pitts or talk o'the hill as it was in the old days..
i come from this area as do all my family..
the samuel and annathirza i am looking for i still have'nt managed to find
i havefound out since that samuel was born about 1901 and so was anna
samuel had a sister named alice
also samuels father james died and his mother remarried to someone called shufflebottom and had another daughter
so it seems the james i am looking for only has two chidren called alice and samuel
samuel had about 15 kids and lived in the goldenhill or sandyford area..
samuel was born in kidsgrove but when he and anna married they moved to 33 beeches row
so from the kidsgrove records i am trying to find james and sarah ann either on a census or marriage certificate
i am assummimg that james must be in his teens or early twentys on a 1881 census and probably married in the 1891 census..
do you suppose this is right..
then when i find james i will be able to find his father hopefully
have you any records that might help
thanks again hope to hear from you soon
