Glad to hear from you again and thanks for the information. Edward Knapper sent for the marriage certificate and reported this marriage to me but we have a great problem. Whereas,you can usually be assured of the names of the fathers of the bride and groom in William and Ellen's case that part of the certificate was left blank.I sent an E-mail about this to the Staffordshire Records Office and they replied "I have looked on The microfiche copy of Bucknall parish register for 5 August 1850 and neither fathers names nor occupations were given - just a line drawn through. I did notice that all the marriages on that sheet of fiche were the same but not on the one previous/later.
I cant think why this was".
So clearly we have some difficulty here which seems to make tracing William's father and mother all the more difficult.
