I think that you and I have this site to ourselves Jeanette!!Many thanks for the census information it is very useful. i need to view the parish records of Kidsgrove to confirm that my William Knapper was the son of George Knapper. I have been talking to my dad today Harold Knapper. He is now 87 but as bright as a button and twice as active. He was brought up in Stoke on Trent and went to Bagnall school with his brother Reg and sister Hilda. I was asking him if he recollected a place called Oldcott. He didn't so do I presume that it was part of Kidsgrove? It doesn't feature on the latest Ordnance Survey map. Finally I take it that we don't share a common ancestor otherwise you would have said.George Knapper must have been around at the same time as your Charles.
Nice to hear from you Jeanette

best wishes

Leon Knapper
