It's hard to say. I am researching also. My Knapper clan came from Staffordshire England. Records show that the Knapper name is present as far back as 1500 or so in England. BUT there are Knappers that came from the Netherlands also. I do not know if these two clans are related be would suspect that they are. To me, Knapper seems like a Dutch name but I have yet to get any proof either way. Good luck
