I am trying to find the link between the GEREND family and the Knauf's. I found a news article dated June 14, 1893 which stated "Nic Gerend left for Tomahawk WI to attend the funeral of his sister's husband, John Knauf. I found that there was a daughter, Agnes, since many society articles have her visiting the Knauf's of Calumet and Sheboygan County.

I will be visiting Lincoln, Co and Tomahawk this fall to get more information. The following is subject to change:

John Knauf b abt 1809 d abt6/14/1893 may have been married to my great grandfather Nic Gerend's sister who could have a first name of Anna. This person is new to me, since I never found any records. She would have been born in Germany abt 1830.Articles state that Mrs John Knauf and Agnes moved to Chippawa Falls WI after John Knauf's death.

I have John having 2 children:
John b 2/22/1851 in Centerville WI d 3/23/1928
Angeline b 11/23/1861 Marathon CO WI d 4/22/1918

News articles indicate that John Knauf was the police chief of Stevens Point, WI. It also has a John Knauf traveling from Stevens Point to Tomahawk WI for business interests.

What is interesting is that I found an wedding in 1932 in which a JOHN WESLEY married Pauline Raiche, whose grandfather was Nicholas Knauf.

Jerry Gerend
