Janice, I believe Johannes Kanoff/Knopf Sr died in Germany. At that time it seems that he had two children with Julianna Catharina Klie.... (Johannes Jr. b before 1733 & Margaret b. 1727 - wife of J. Henry Couse-the Couse's are buried in Frankford Plains Cemetery NJ. Margaret seems to be the step-daughter of Johannes Schnuch 1709-1775.) J. 'Catherine' Knopf then married Johannes Schnuch 1709-1775 and the family seems to have relocated to America circa 1736... ~ the 'Dusebary' Will records Knopf's name as "Canove". A document in Marlyand records 'John Snook' and 'John Knopf' as signers on said document relating to a gentleman named "Yost". The document is dated 1798.... one year before Johannes Kanoff/John Knopf dies. The last document that "I" am aware of reflecting both John Snook & John Knopf is the Last Will and testament of Peter Gass d. 1769. I use to think that John Snook "Sr" was signer of documents, but now wonder if both of his 'sons' Snook & Knopf (actually step son) are the 'guys' on the documents..... I personally believe that "Conave" IS INDEED Knopf.
