There appear to have been quite a number of Knauf/Knauff immigrants in about 1831 that left the area of Ramholtz and Volmertz near Schluechtern in Hesse, Germany. These individuals settled in various parts of Pennsylvania. My wifes line is in that group, arriving in 1831, and setteling in North Mahoning Twp, Indiana Co., Pa, where they farmed and died. There were other Knauf/Knauff families in the area as well, though not directly related. You might try the LDS Family History Center in your area and do a search of the Schluechtern, Hesse, Germany area, or Rasmholz, Schluechtern, Hesse, Germany, in that the chirch records and some civil records for Ramholz and Volmertz are located in Ramholz. Also, contact me at by e-mail, and I might have a lead for you. Dick
