The information I have is that Moretz and Barbara Knauf arrived in Baltimore on May 20, 1851, from Breman on the SS Albert. His occupation is listed as a butcher. I have no information as to where they were born, married, etc. I can't verify if her maiden name was burgess. In the book Germans to America I find Moritz Knauf, age 30 Butcher, Barbara age 24, Michael 11 months infant. And George16 and Margaretha 15. The information I have was found at the National Archives and records administration here in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. I have a copy of the ships manifest that lists the same information. In the 1860 census for Baltimore there are Moretz 39, birth year 1820, birthplace Hesse, Barbara 33, born Hesse, 1826, Moritz age 10 born 1849 Hesse, Effa born Maryland 1853, Barbara age 3 born 1856 Maryland, Mary 6.12 born Maryland, and Herman Eveing apparently a border, born in Hanover, Saxon in 1830. I can't find Moretz in 1870 census and I can find none of the other people listed in 1860 census. I find Barbara born Saxon, remarried to Henry Kehnly, (mispelling by census taker)should be Kuehnle, later changed to Keehnle, born Wurtemburg, listed as farmer, my maiden name is Keehnle, in the 1870 Census in Richland Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. With Frederick Knauff born Saxon. John Knauff, age 16, born Pennsylvania, Henry Kehnly, again mispelling, age 7, born Pennsylvania, Caroline, age 5, Anna age 7 months. both born in Pennsylvania. I assume Moretz died, but I can find no information about his death or where he is buried. John Keehnle is my great grandfather, his son Charles is my grandfather, and my father is Charles. My grandfather married Josephine Stuvenault, (not sure of spelling} My father married Marquerite Cunningham. My parents had 5 children Charles who died at age of 2 weeks in 1929, Martin James, Gerald Francis, Kenneth Frederick and Barbara Mae (that's me). In the 1880 census in Richland Township, PA Henry does not appear. He died Jan. 18, 1873 according to a list I received from St. John's Evangelical Churh, Richland. Barbara died 1n 1902, John died in 1902, Charles died in 1096, 2 weeks before his son Charles was born. He died in a hunting accident. He was a Philadelphia police officer. I am trying to find out when Muaretz Knauf died and where he is buried and what happened to the rest of the family. I am also trying to find out where Henry Kuehnle is buried. So far no luck. I haven't worked on this project for a while because I got discouraged having run into so many uncooperative people and agencies and other obstacles. I volunteer at the Archives here in Pittsfield, but I do work other than geneology.
