I recently rec'd some info on this very family. Part of my confusion with the Knecht family (my own maiden name) is that part of them were from Switzerland, part from France, and part from Germany. I got ahold of some period maps, and found they were all from the same place. It was just that at different times this region was under rule of different governments. This explained it! Most of the Knechts came into this country via the Port of Philadelphia. They eventually moved to the Cincinnatti area, and then on into Franklin and Dearborn counties in Indiana, then on again from there. Contact me and I will see that you get a snail mail copy of the info I received on Victor Knecht of foundry fame. I'm sure there is a connection with my Johannes, but haven't figured it out yet. Was in Franklin Co. recently and took pictures at the cemetery. I can send on this info to you if you link with these Knechts or think you might.
