Very interested in the info. you indicated concerning Knecht records from Reihen, Germany from 1640-1790. My immigrant ancestor was Johann Knecht, who most likely immigrated in the early to mid-1840s. His death record states that he was a veteran of the U.S.-Mexican War, 1846-1848. He was born in Germany or Prussia on June 7, 1828. I don't know the names of his parents. Their names do not appear on his death record. Family oral history states that he was the sole survivor in his family of a shipwreck that occurred as they were approaching America. He was credited as a hero due to having saved many lives. His name was later Anglicized to John Kent. Any info. on the Knecht family would be greatly appreciated! THANKS!
