They may somehow be related, but my Martin Knecht died in 1864 or 5 as the result of having his leg amputated after a mini ball struck him in the left leg during the battle at Fussels Mill in Virginia during the Civil War. He immigrated to the USA around 1850 and settled in South Carolina. His wife was Fanny (Frances) Fricks.
