Dear Jennifer: Please pardon me for not responding to you sooner. I am recovering from hysterectomy surgery that I underwent Jan. 4, and it is just now that I am comfortable sitting at the computer. You did not include much information about your Kneifls, but if your family of Kneifls came from Nebraska, I am nearly 100% sure that our families are connected. I am a descendant of Philip Kneifl who came to Nebraska from Wisconsin in 1869. Along with him came his parents, Jacob and Theresa (Wurz), his own wife, Frances (Pompen), their daughter Mary, only a year old or so, his older brother Martin and Martin's wife Johanna (Lerch) and their baby boy, Francis. In addition Johanna's mother was with them. I am going from memory on this since my Kneifl notebook is buried in a box under another box, and I am not to do any heavy lifting now. I will have to wait until my daughter comes home and I can correct any mistakes I've made in future correspondence with you. At any rate, these families settled on homesteads just to the southeast of Newcastle, Nebraska. They came to Wisconsin from Baden, Austria around 1856, but are listed in census records as from Bohemia, and indeed are found in a list of Czech immigrants. I don't have the exact records here...they are in the box, but just in case you do not already have this information, I can get it to you in better shape once I have the actual notebook in front of me. I am also corresponding with a Helmut Kneifel from Cologne, Germany who is originally from Bohemia, and through him I hope to fill in some of the history from earlier times. Have you been collecting information as well? I would love to correspond with you and share information. I am quite sure you are in my family records somewhere, and if you are not, I will happily add your information. Let me know what we can do to begin this sharing process. I have quite a lot of information, some of it from my cousin, Ann Guenther, who has written the Gregory Kneifl family tree. Gregory was a brother to my grandfather, Matt Kneifl, and they were sons of Philip. Well, I could go on and on, but I will wait to hear from you before I commit much more to this piece. I am so glad you wrote to me. Sincerely, Judy Kneifl
