Hi Jonelle,
I posted the 1790-1800-1830-1840-& 1850 Spartanburg Co, SC Census on the McKNIGHT Genealogy Board today.
I'm beginning to think our KNIGHTONS were McKnight's early on and they changed their names to Knighton/Knighten.
Check out the Census records I posted today and let me know what you think?
This could be the reason we have come to a "Screeching Halt" in our Knighton research.
Alot of the early settlers that ended up in Spartanburg Co, SC were "Scott-Irish" and some migrated down from PA, MD & VA.
It could turn out our Knightons/McKnights were "Immigrants" from either Scottland or Ireland.
From the 1800 Spartanburg Co, SC Census, it appears there were THREE older McKnights. A THOMAS McKNIGHT who was 45+ and a CHARLES McKNIGHT, also 45+, plus a JOHN McKNIGHT also age 45+. They were all living very close together.
There was also a WILLIAM McKNIGHT, age 26-44; and another Wm. McKnight, age 26-44 years old. They were listed on pages 177-178-179.
This may turn out to be another "dead end", but you never know.
