I have done a great deal of research on the Johannes Christian Kneip line. He came from Germany and settled in Gwynedd Twp., Montgomery Co., PA. The name was changed, legally, by his children, after his death, to Knipe. Most of the Knipe's in and around Montgomery Co., PA are from this line. Some of Johannes' decsendants did migrate South, however the only name change that I am aware of in this line is one male decsendant changed his last name to Knight. I have never come across a reference to Knipp.

The Christian Knnipe (married to Mary Wismer) that you mention in your message is on of the sons of Johannes Kneip and his wife Anna Barbara Hoffman.

If you are interested in further details all of my research is available on the Worldconnect section of Rootsweb.
