I A knipe geologist in British Isles in 1844

This gentleman was the author of a geological map of the British Isles and a part of France , The map was commisioned by Prince Albert and published in 1844. It is a beautiful map and has credit given to all the emminent geologists of the day. But try as I might I can find nothing about the man that made this map Mr Knipe.

For the curious the first stratigraphical map of the british isles was made by William Smith and published in 1815, so in his day Mr Knipe must have been quite eminent in geological/cartographic circles.
