I came across your page as I was researching an old baggage trunk that I just purchased that belonged to a Mr. & Mrs. William Knipe. There are Cunard White Star stamps all over it. (Some torn off.)

On one of the stickers it states that the couple was sailing on June 25, 1948 to Southampton on the ship "Aquitania."

Remarkably, inside the trunk there are several handkerchiefs; one with the name "Marion" embroidered on it.

There is also a handkerchief with the letter "W' embroidered on it, from Ireland.

There are a few other things, such as a pair of pink gloves, made in Japan, and a hair accessory covered with feathers.

I was saddened to read that Marion had died at a young age.

I bought the trunk tonight at a Salvation Army Thrift store in Toronto, Canada. I've always wanted one, and when I saw the "Liverpool" sticker on it, I had to have it. (I'm a big Beatles fan and went to Liverpool to visit the Beatles' homes.)

Another thing you might find of interest: one of the handkerchiefs is beige and written on it in red letters is "Canadian Provost Corps." Above the words there's a logo of a lion, wearing a crown, standing on something I do not recognize.

I hope this helps in your search. I only registered with this site so that I can tell you about the trunk and its contents.

Thank you for letting me know about the history. I wonder how it ended up in Toronto?

Best regards,
Christina Angelopoulos
