Hello
Following on from the other respondant, there are a number of Knipes in Northern Ireland. I live in Armagh, and know at least 20 other families, all of whom Im related to in some way. In the rest of the country, the name is fairly rare and most can be traced back to Armagh or its vicinity.
A family tree of my ancestors has been constructed, but i'm unsure how far it goes back, and how us Knipes ended up where we are. I think the name is germanic and have a feeling that someone told me that our family came over with King William of Orange from the Netherlands in the late 1600's.
