Hi and thank you!
This is certainly on my track and should give me something to follow up on, as Bertha Melcher was a Rordorf before she married, and there was another relation (sister? cousin?) married to a Smith.Black Jack Springs is one of the areas I've been looking at.
Fayette Co. did have some Rordorf marriages:
Bertha & W F Melcher1885
Hillie & Louis Loessin1899
Hulda & Henry Oeding1888
Mathilda Von & A F Loessin1894
There seem to be at least two Mathildas. One born3-31-1872.She is buried in the New
La Grange City Cemetery.
AMathilda married John L. Smith on
1-22-1890 in Fayette.Don't know if this is the same Mathilda, or if she is Mathilda Pape, born about 1846 in Gillespie Co. TX, who marriedA Louis Von Rordorf,in 1865.
ADr. Louis Rohrdorff (b. 1820, Prussia) is found in the 1870 Cat Springs, Austin Co. Census, with Mathilda, age 25, keeping house. Also in the household are 4 girls, including Berta age 8.
The people I really want to findare the parents of Emilia Von Rordorf (born 1876?), who is supposed to be the child of Mathilda Pape and Ernest Fredrich Ludwig Bertholdt Rordorf.(An Ernst Rordorf married in Austin to a Fredericka Sternberg about 1860.I don't know if these are brothers, or even the same person using Ernest sometimes and Louis, as an americanized version of Ludwig on other occasions.)
Would you by chance have a link for your census info, where I might find some names of Mathilda's children? That might clear a few things up my problem of too many Mathildas.
The other problem I'm having is that Emilia seems to have moved to Travis County (after marrying Edgar Spencer Gregory, probably in 1894, and changing her first name to Amelia or Emily).Travis County records seem to be unavailable except to look by hand in person.I'm in California.Any ideas?
And thank you again for the clues!
