He married PAULINE ERNESTINE POLITZSCH Abt. 1879 in Saxony, Germany. She was born August 27, 1857 in Saxony, Germany, and died April 07, 1932 in Yoakum, Lavaca County, Texas.
Notes for CARL AUGUST KNIPPA:
Carl August and Ernestine (Pollsek) Knippa and other members of the family came to America in 1881 from the Province of Saxony, Germany. They first settled at Fayetteville, Fayette County. They then moved to Lavaca County making their home at Half Moon Timber (Shiner). They then moved to the Dreyer-Hochheim community where the children were reared.
Richard and Martha were born in Germany. Richard got sick on the boat from Hamburg Germany to Galveston, and was near death. They were preparing to bury him at sea, when he moved his hands, and they learned he was alive.
Carl and his family are listed in the 1900 U.S. Census in Lavaca County, Texas. The census shows the family immigrating to America in 1881. Bernard was the first child born in the U.S., in 1882. In 1900, Carl was listed as being able to read, write and speak English. Ernestine could read and write English but was shown as not being able to speak English. In July 1900 when the Census was taken, Carl was 47, Ernestine was 42; Martha was 20; Richard was 19; Bernard was 18; Laura was 15; Flora was 13; Reinhard was 11; Eberhard was 7; Clara was 4; and Alma was 2 years old. Ernestine was shown was having given birth to 10 children and all 10 were still living. In 1900, Carl and Ernestine had been married 21 years.
In the 1910 U.S. Census, August and his family are listed as living in De Witt County, Texas in Justice Precinct No. 6. The census was taken in April 1910.
August was 52; had been married 30 years, and his wife Ernestine was 52, and she had given birth to 11 children and all were still living. Their Sone Reinhard was 21; Gerhard was 19; Eberhard was 17; Clara was 14; Alma was 12; and Gothard was 9 years old. August was a farmer, they had immigrated to the U.S. in 1881. August and Ernestine were shown as having been born in Germany, and both their parents were born in Germany.

She married CHARLES WILLIAM SCHWABE October 24, 1901, son of MARY. He was born September 03, 1879 in Fayette County, Texas, and died September 23, 1940 in San Antonio, Texas.

Charles Schwabe and his wife Martha Knippa are listed in the 1910 U. S. Census in Dewitt County, Texas, and in Enumeration District No. 46, Sheet 4B. They had been married 8 years and had 4 children who were all still alive. There children were listed as Willie, Ida, Hugo, and Anna; and all born in Texas. Both Charles and Martha were born in Texas. Living with Charles Schwabe was his bother in law Richard Knippa.
Charles was a farmer and lived on his farm in Hochheim Prairie, where all hie children were born and raised.
Charlie Schwabe was Lutheran. He is buried at the Herman Sons Cemetery at Hochheim Prairie in Dewitt County, Texas.

Charlie William Schwabe, age 61 years ,20 days, passed away in San Antonio, September 23, at about 10 o'clock P. M. after an illness of several months.
Mr. Schwabe was born in Fayette County, September 3rd, 1879, living there until he was about 10 years of age, when with his family he moved to Yoakum on Tr. 1, where he was engaged in farming, moving to Edna, Texas in 1937, and then in January of this year he located in, Inez at which place he was living at the time of his death.
On October 24th, 1901, he united in marriage to Miss Martha Augusta Knippa, and to this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters all of whom survive him with the exception of on daughter who preceded him in death in 1933.
Mr. Schwabe is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Schwabe and two daughters, Misses Ida and Edna Schwabe and Inez, three sons, Willie of Waelder, Hugo of Eagle Lake and Charles of El Toro, Texas.
Funeral services were held at the Buffington Chapel at 2 P.M. Friday, Sept. 27, Rev Paul Bechter, pastor of Yoakum Lutheran Church officiating, assisted by Rev. W.C. Wolfsdorf of the Lutheran Church of Shiner, with internment in Herman Sons Cemetery under direction of Buffington Funeral Home.

Shiner - Willie C. Schwabe, 82, of Siner died Friday in Corpus Christi hospital following a long illness.
He was born April 17, 1905, in DeWitt County, Son of the late Charles and Martha Knippa Schwabe. He was a retired building contractor.
Funeral services will be at 2 P.M. Sunday at the Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Yoakum with the Dr. Paul Cooper officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hermann Sons Cemetery in Yoakum.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Schwabe of Dickinson and Robert Schwabe of Midland; and a brother, Hugo Schwabe of Shiner.

SHINER - Hugo Gerhardt Schwabe, 83, lifelong resident of Shiner, died at 4:46 P.M. Thursday, Dec. 6, 1990, at this residence after a short illness.
A prayer service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Friday at the Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Shiner.
Funeral services will be at 10 A.M. Saturday at the United Dr. Martin Luther Church with the Rev. Charles Mantey officiating.
Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home of Shiner.
He was born July 7, 1907, in Dreyer, to the late Charles and Martha Knippa Schwabe. He was a self-employed road construction worker and a Lutheran. He was co-owner of Schwabe Mikes Construction for many years and also owner of the Place Cafe in Shiner.
Surviving are his wife, Kamila Mikes Schwabe of Shiner; a daughter, Mrs. Dorothy Taylor of Illinois; a son, H.F. "Pete" Schwabe of Corpus Christi; and six grandchildren.

He is 29 years old, and was listed as having been born in Texas, and both his parents were born in Germany.
In the 1920 U.S. Census, Richard is listed as living in Lavaca County, Texas (Enumeration District No. 129, Sht. No. 12). Richard was 39; his wife Ida was 37, daughter Georgia was 7; son was 6, Maria was 4; and James 2; and Emile 9 months (Not certain of last son's name due to poor quality of microfilm).

Alvin, Tex --------Ada Knippa, age 93, of Clute, Texas died Tuesday, Nov. 16, in an Alvin hospital.
Funeral services were held in the Lake Jackson Funeral Chapel, Thursday, Nov. 18, with burial in the Lake Jackson Cemetery.
She lived in Nueces County from 1927 until 1940.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Georgia Steiger of Robstown, Mrs. Marie Erdman of Adkins, three sons, Perry Knippa of Dallas, James Knippa of Victoria and C.A. Knippa of Alvin, 11 grand children, 20 great- grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

James F. Knippa, 65, of 3713 Lone Tree Road, died Friday May 13, 1983 in a San Antonio hospital following a lengthy illness.
Born January 11, 1918, in Yoakum, he was a 35 year resident of Victoria.
A retired Tennessee Gas operator, he was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church.
A rosary will be recited at 7 P.M. Saturday in the chapel of the Colonial Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 P.M. Sunday at the St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Arnold Andres officiating. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilian Mican Knippa.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis Knippa of Meyersville and Jimmie Knippa of Houston; two sister, Marie Erdman of San Antonio and Georgia Steiger of Robstown; two brothers, C.A, Knippa of Alvin and Perry Knippa of Dallas; and four grandchildren.

She was Born November 10, 1927 in Wharton County, the daughter of the late Anton and Elizabeth Krejcicek Mican, and was a member of the KJZT.

ROCKPORT - Louise Knippa, 87, of Rockport died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996.
She was born March 8, 1908, in Nashville, Tenn. The homemaker, was a volunteer for the Castaways. She was a member of Altar Guild Society.
Survivors: daughters, June Gregory of Rockport and Delia Knippa of San Antonio; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He later moved to Houston, married and had three children, divorced and remarried Rose. He moved to Groveton, Texas and may be buried there.

TAKEN BY DEATH
SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY WITH INTERMENT IN HERMAN SONS CEMETERY
Reinhard Knippa passed away at his home on route 3, at 4:40 Tuesday morning after an illness of several months at the age of 52 years, 5 months, 2 days.
Mr. Knippa was born in Fayette County on July 2, 1888. The next years his parents moved to DeWitt County. November 8, 1920 he was married to Miss Lenora McClanahan in Yoakum, Texas. He made his home on Hochheim Prairie after his marriage until the first of this year when he and his family moved to Route 3 south of Yoakum in Lavaca County.
Se serve recently as deputy sheriff of DeWitt County for 8 years.
He was well known in this part of the two counties and had many friends who will miss him from their midst.
He served his country in the army during the World War and received and honorable discharge. He has been a member of the Holly Cross Lutheran Church since early childhood.
Funeral services were held from Beck Chapel at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, Dec. 4, by Rev. Paul Bechter and the American Legion and interment in Herman Sons Cemetery under the direction of the Beck Mortuary.
Mr. Knippa is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lenora Knippa, one son, R.S. Knippa, Jr, four sisters; Mrs Charley Schwabe of Inez, Texas; Mrs. August Marburger of Yoakum; Mrs. Ben Marburger of Abilene, Texas, an Miss Alma Knippa of Yoakum, and four brothers; Ben Knippa of Corpus Christi; Richar Knippa of Yoakum; Gerhard Knippa of Dreyer, and Eberhard Knippa of Ezzel.

Services Held For Native Texan Gerhard Knippa
Funeral services for Gerhard Paul Knippa, age 74 years, 11 months and 19 days, were held at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church Yoakum Wednesday, October 13 at 2:00 P.M. The Rev. D. I. Dolton officiated. Burial was in Hermann Sons Cemetery. Buffington Funeral Home, Yoakum, was in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers were Arthur Emken, Walter and Edmund Krause, Louis Zinke and Ewald Schmidt, all of the Dreyer community, an Jim McClanahan of Yoakum.
Mr. Knippa, a resident of Rt. 2, Yoakum, Dreyer community, passed away at 1:20 P.M. Monday October 11, 1965, eleven days before his 75th birthday anniversary. Death occurred at Huth Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for five days.
Gerhard Paul Knippa was born October 22, 1890 at Yoakum, DeWitt County, Texas, son of Carl August and Ernestine (Pollsek) Knippa. His parent and other members of the family came to America in 1881 from the Province of Saxony, Germany. They first settled at Fayetteville, Fayette County. From there the family moved to Lavaca County, making their home at Half Moon, this being shortly before the inception of the town of Shiner; and then to the Dreyer-Hochheim community, this being where Mr. Knippa was reared.
He was married November 17, 1914 to Elizabeth Dramberger at Yoakum. The couple made their home in the Dreyer community where they farmed for their livelihood. They had been making their home on the same place for the past 46 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Knippa of Yoakum; five daughters, Mrs. Norbert R. (Frances) Tasler of Columbus, Mrs. Oscar (Geneva) Ward of Yoakum, Mrs. Leonard (Sadie) Dreyer of Shiner, Mrs. Billy (Lenora) Brown of Rocksprings, Mrs. Edwin (Irene) Hilbrich of Westhoff; three sons, Emanuel and Karl Knippa, both of Yoakum, Daniel Knippa of Corpus Christi, one brother, Eberhardt Knippa of Yoakum; 31 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a 23 year old son, Lawrence Edwin Knippa, who was killed in an auto accident on July 10, 1950; four brothers, Richard Max Knippa, who died March 22, 1961, Herman Reinhardt and Bernhardt Knippa; five sisters, Mrs. August (Ernestine Laura) Marburger, who died November 3, 1958, Mrs. Ben (Flora) Marburger, who died July 21, 1954, Mrs. Charles (Martha Augusta) Schwabe, who died July 20, 1959, Mrs. August (Clara) Schwabe and Miss Alma Knippa.

Services For Mrs. Elizabeth Knippa
Yoakum - Mrs. Elizabeth Knippa, 97, resident of Yoakum area almost all of her life, died Sunday, July 1, 1984 in a Yoakum nursing home, where she was a resident for 1 1/2 years.
Funeral services were held at 10 A.M. Tuesday, July 3 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Yoakum with the Rev. John Peters officiating.
Burial was in the Hermann Sons Cemetery near Hochheim. Her grandsons served as pallbearers.
Rosary was recited at 8 P.M. Monday at Buffington Funeral Home in Yoakum, where the body lay in state.
She was born Oct. 31, 1886 in Guadalupe County, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Dramberger.
On Nov. 17, 1914, she was married to Gerhard Paul Knippa in Yoakum. The couple made their home in the Dreyer community where they farmed for their livelihood. They had been making their home on the same place for half a century. Her husband died Oct. 11, 1965.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Norbert R. Also, five sisters, Mrs. Tillie Rose and Mrs. Agnes Mary Mergele, both of New Braunfels; Mrs. Jodie Grier of San Antonio, Mrs. Mary Vetter of Seguin and Mrs. Hanna Dietz of Washington, Texas; three brothers, John Dramberger, Anton Dramberger, and Sylvester Dramberger, all of San Antonio; 31 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Frances Knippa Tasler, 73, of Columbus, died Sunday (October 2, 1988) at Columbus Community Hospital.
She was born August 27, 1915, in Yoakum to the late Gerhard Knippa and Elizabeth Dramberger Knippa. She married Norbert R. Tasler on Oct. 14, 1944.
Mrs. Tasler was a housewife, and had been a resident of Columbus for 34 years. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus, and belonged to the St. Anthony Altar Society and the VFW Auxiliary.
A rosary was held Tuesday at Henneke Funeral Home in Columbus and services were Wednesday at at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Columbus with Rev. Timothy Kosler and Monsignor Thomas Collins officiating. Services were under the direction of Henneke Funeral Home.
Interment followed in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Norbert R. Tasler of Columbus, two daughters, Bernadette Tasler of Pasadena and Elizabeth Tasler of Humble; two sons, Frank "Buddy" Tasler of Las Vegas, Nev., and Norbert Tasler, Jr. of Soldotna, Alaska; four sisters, Sadie Dreyer of Shiner, Geneva Ward of Yoakum, Lenora Brown of Rocksprings and Irene Hilbrich of Cuero; three brothers, Karl Knippa and Emanuel "Mancy" Knippa both of Yoakum and Daniel Knippa of Corpus Christi; and two grandchildren, Anne Marie Tasler of Evergreen Park, Illinois, and Michael Tasler of Soldotna, Alaska.

Yoakum-Irene Knippa, 69, died Saturday in a Victoria hospital following a short illness.
She was born April 14, 1919, in Moulton to the late John and Sophie Tampke Pany.
A parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Buffington Funeral Home in Yaokum. A Catholic Daughters rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Funeral servies will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic church with the Rev. Augie Pucar officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Mausoleum.

Leonard H. Dreyer was born Nov. 3, 1915, near Wilson, Texas to Robert & Martha Sander Dreyer. He was baptized July 16, 1916, St. John Lutheran Church in Wilson, Texas. The family moved back to Lavaca Co. where he grew up with a younger brother James. He was educated at Menger School and Shiner High. He was confirmed in a class of seven at United Dr. Martin Luther Curch in Shiner onJune 8, 1930 by Rev. J.C.A. Pfenninger.
Leonard married Sydonia E. Knippa on Sept. 7, 1939. The couple had two children: Ronnie and Rhonda. They farmed and ranched in the Menger School area. They were members of United Dr. Martin Luther Church. In recent years of retirement the couple enjoyed their two grandchildren and a great grandchild.
In 1993 tragedy came to the family with the untimely death of Ronnie and Virginia. Recently Leonard had been in failing health and died at Citizens Hospital in Victoria on Saturday, Aug. 31, 1996. He was 80 years, 9 months, 28 days. May he rest in peace.
Survivors are his wife Sadie; daughter adn son-in-law, Rhonda & Gregory Wagner; grandchildren Wyatt Wagner, Sherri & Bob Bickham; and great granddaughter, Lidnsey Bickham, all of Shiner.
Deceased are his parents, Robert & Martha Dreyer; son & daughter-in-law, Ronnie & Virginia Dreyer (1993) and brother James (1979). Burial will be beside his Sander grandparents in the old city cemetery.

Yoakum-Funeral services for Emanuel "Mancy" Knippa, 66, of Yoakum are scheduled for 10 a.m. today (Wednesday), July 15, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Charles Sonnier will officiate, followed by interment in Restland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Knippa, a well known real estate broker and rancher, died July 13 at his residence following a long illness. A native of Dreyer, he was born Feb. 18, 1926 to the late Gerhard and Elizabeth Dramberger Knippa.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force, 1944-1946. Mr. Knippa was active in numerous civic activities and organizations, and was a past president of the Yoakum rotary Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Sweet Home American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Survivors include the widow, Marie Jo Henkhaus Knippa, to whom he was married on June 28, 1947 in Shiner; a daughter, Lynette Morrison, San Antonio; 2 sons, Darnell and Sammy Knippa, both of Houston; 4 sisters, Geneva Ward, Yoakum, Sadie Dreyer, Shiner, Irene Hilbrich, Cuero and Lenora Brown, Rocksprings; 2 brothers, Karl Knippa, Yoakum and Daniel Knippa, Corpus Christi; and 5 granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Frances Tasler and a brother, Lawrence Knippa.
