Hi Terri,

You may want to post your inquiry on a Swiss gen. bulletin board, such as that for St. Gallen. I found some info about the Knobel name there, and you may be able to go further. St. Gallen is not the most frequent location for the Knobel name in Switz., but you may be able to start there. The name means the same as "knoll" in English, so it could originate in many German-speaking locations.
