James Knott Married Mary Holiday in 1718. probably the same James. If you consider a late 1600 census which says there is only one Knott family (James 1594-1653) In Virginia then it is most likely that our 1718 James is the same James of which you seek. The Rent rolls of Nansemond Co. Va in 1704 shows a James Knott holding the same land granted to the original James Knott who settled Va. this was either the same James who married Mary Holiday, or else it was the father of the James who married Mary Holiday. Justin Knott was born in the period of 1730-34 and lived in brunswick co. the date of his birth cannot remove him from the original James more than generations i would think. It is most likely that the line goes like this. James, William,James (the one who married Mary) then Justin. Just an assumption but James would probably be about 60 or 70 years old around the date you mention. My information comes mainly from a book by Lucille Vernon of Winston Salem N.C. titled The Family of James Knott of Yadkin County His ancestors and relatives. with a few knotts of granville county. also listed are Knotts in Md, Iowa, Illinois, California, Georgia, Tn, and others, Other families mentioned are Lackeys, Pratts, Roysters, Rice, Ridings, Scott, Wilhelm, Norman, Penland, Crabtree, etc etc.
