I note that all of us are wondering when the Catholic Knott family became Protestant in many cases. My mother is still living at 82 and remembers that her grandfather, William Henry, born in Perry County, Missouri, never went to church with the family on Sunday. When I realized that our ancestors were Catholic, while my family has been Baptist as far back as my mother can recall, I asked her about her grandfather. We came to the conclusion that when the family migrated from Perryville to Oklahoma and then came to Southwest Missouri in 1844, there were not a great number of Catholic families in the area. When the men searched for a bride, they found only Protestant families from whom to choose. This area is still known as the "Bible Belt" to some folk.I truly feel that this might have been the "cause" of many of the Catholic Knotts becoming Protestant over the years.
