If a Zachariah Knott is in my line, it would have to be the one who lived and died in Barnesville, MD. My Gustavus was born about 1797 in MD. Zachariah in Madison County would have to be a nephew or some other relative. He is about the age of Gustavus's older children.
I have researched quite a bit in Fayette County. There is a marriage on record there for Zachariah Not and Ann Baugley on March 7, 1839.
The original census pages for 1860 show Zachariah Nott, b. VA, age 43, in Stokes Twp., Madison County. His wife is Ann.
The original pages for 1870 show Zacharia, age 51, b. MD, wife Ann, living in Union Twp., Madison County. The child you mentioned is clearly Gusta, a female, age 11. Of course, in both cases, the other children are also listed. I think one of them is Augustine...it is not clear on the page.
Is this Zacharia(h) in Madison County the one you mentioned being the son of William? If so, I wonder if William and Gustavus could be brothers. The similarity of names and locations is uncanny.
My line goes through Gustavus's son Henry, then John M., Charles H., and my mother. Henry left Fayette County and moved to Union county (Marysville) where the family stayed for a long time.
You mentioned an obituary in London. I assume you mean London, OH? I need to get over there and look around.
Thanks for your help.
