Thanks for posting the data about the Knowlton family. Two hundred years ago your family and mine were closely tied. Betsy and Mary Chapman were my gr-gr-gr aunts. Both were daughters of Nathaniel Chapman and Sarah Gott. Nathaniel Chapman (1758-1819)was a Revolutionary War veteran from Lunenburg, MA who died at Kinfield, ME.

I would love to find out how the two families came to know each other. We suspect (but don't know) that Nathaniel's family originated in Ipswich, Essex County, MA. What is the history of Joseph Knowlton? How did he end up in Maine?

According to your notes Mary Chapman must have married her step-nephew, William Knowlton, the son of Joseph Knowlton and the step son of Betsy Chapman.

Who is Lydia Chapman? She is not part of Nathaniel Chapman's family. Who were her parents? Could she be a cousin of Betsy and Mary?
