Joseph or Hugh? Roulette Pennsulvania

I am just starting to research the Knowlton name in my family tree. I sent for my Great grandmothers social security ap and it revealed her mother as Thankful Knowlton from Roulette, Potter Co. Pa. After going to the library I was able to find Thankful on the 1850 census at the age of 5, however, it looks like her father's name was Hugh, the internet research I have done suggests he could have been Joseph. Can anyone shed any light, or point in a new direction? Hugh was born abt. 1800, the census says in Connecticut, wife Jane, and 10 children listed.

Thank you

Donna
