Knowlton's in Newfane Vermont
Posted by: Marie Kitchen (ID *****6761) Date: September 10, 2004 at 06:59:18

Seeking the identity of a Knowlton in the Newfane Vermont area who married Sarah (Sally, Salle) Fitch Green, who was either divorced or the widow of John W. Green between 1790 and 1801.

Land records found in Vergennes VT state that Sarah's father, Jabez Fitch, left land to Sarah's daughter (Eliza Green) stating: only child and daughter of my daughter Salle Knowlton of Newfane, Windham County, Vermont. This document was dated July 23, 1801.

The Green's were living in Vergennes but disappeared after the early 1790's. Vital records from Cummington MA disclosed that Sarah Fitch Knowlton died in Cummington MA in February 1835 and another diary states 27 Dec 1834. Sarah spent her later years living with her daughter's family in MA. It is not known if she was still married or a widow at the time.

Any information would be greatly appreciated in completing Sarah's family history.
