Thanks, Janet. The kind man who posted data on his benetech site over ten years ago is not updating it any more. I suggest going to rootsweb.com Worldconnect to check out Knowlton entries. We also have a listserve on rootsweb, which I administer. I will try to add something to message 319.
No, we do not consider this story to be evidence. There may have been a capt William, and he may have been the father of EITHER John or William; but we cannot tell if or which one. I have left William in my database on rootsweb (mostly because he was already there and to give a place to hang Thomas, the man who mentioned the next two generations in legal records) but eliminated William II and all his descendants because he is not related to John, my ancestor. BTW, Stocking should never be used without the ERRATA AND ADDENDA published by Geo H Knowlton in 1903.
